Colonel Sergei conducts tests on a new Mobile Suit built especially for Soma Peiris, an bioengineered human. Allelujah Haptism and Soma Peiris experience a strange connection brought on by their proximity to each other. This causes Soma Peiris to go into a fit of rage who begins to fire shots randomly at the space elevator severing a section containing civilians. Meanwhile on board the elevator Allelujah Haptism experiences another side of himself but regains his composure and runs off. Colonel Sergei attempts to help the civilians before they drift past the Breakaway Limit Zone and into the Earth's atmosphere but his mobile suit is ill-equipped. Allelujah Haptism, piloting the Gundam Kyrios, arrives to aid the Colonel. Along with the help of the other Gundam Meister's, they save the civilians.

Colonel Sergei returns to the Reform League to head a new squad designated for capturing one of the Gundams, with Soma Peiris as his designated subordinate. Encouraged by Celestial Being's anti-conflict actions, the South American nation of Taribia declares its withdrawal from the Union and declares it independence over the control of energy resources, prompting a Union military response, forcing Celestial Being to intervene. In Azadistan, Shirin Bakhtiar explains to First Princess Marina Ismail that the conflict is not as simple as it may first seem. Meanwhile, the Anti-Gundam Investigative Squad, in Flag Customs, engage Exia in Taribian airspace. Later on, pro-Taribian separatist politicians led by its prime minister are forced to drop their bid for independence after their forces were defeated by the Gundam Meisters.

Tieria returns to space with Gundam Virtue. The Union Army creates an anti-Gundam special forces unit with Graham and Billy transferred from the MSWAD as official members. Meanwhile, Celestial Being launches surprise attacks in South Africa, the South American continent and in Ceylon. Setsuna later faces off against Colonel Smirnov while conducting an attack against Human Reform League mobile suits. Later on, a JNN broadcast revealed that various militant factions in North Ireland signed a peace treaty, ending years of fighting between themselves, the British Army and the PSNI.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is the latest television anime of Sunrise's long-running Gundam franchise. The series premiered on October 6. It is directed by Seiji Mizushima and written by Yōsuke Kuroda, and features character designs by Yun Kōga. Similar to the Sunrise anime Code Geass, 25 episodes of Gundam 00 will be shown before the series takes a break and is resumed at a later time.

The series is set in the year 2307 AD of the Gregorian calendar. During this time, fossil fuels became exhausted and the distribution of fuels became imbalanced. Humanity must rely on an array of solar power generation systems orbiting the Earth, and supported by three orbital elevators, each one pertaining to one of the three "major powers" on the planet.

The Global Economic Union, comprising the Organization of American States, Australasia, and Japan, control the elevator located in South America. The Human Reform Alliance, comprising China, India, Russia east to the Urals, Mongolia, South East Asia including Papua New Guinea, the Korean Peninsula, Taiwan, and Sri Lanka, control the elevator built in the Pacific Ocean. Europe's Advanced European Union (AEU), comprised of the European Union, controls an elevator built in the middle of the African continent.

With this infinite source of energy benefiting only the major powers and their allies, constant warfare around the globe for fuels and energy lead to the formation of a private military organization, called Celestial Being, dedicated to eradicating war with the use of four humanoid machines called Gundams.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 follows four mobile suit pilots termed Gundam Meisters, sided with Celestial Being. The protagonist is 16-year old Setsuna F. Seiei, a quiet, taciturn young man who grew up in a war-torn Kurdish Republic in the Middle East, and a Gundam Meister for two years. He pilots the GN-001 Gundam Exia, a high mobility mobile suit effective in melee combat.
